Abstract

The research that Adriano Altamira has been conducting for years on the images, on their polysemic value and above all on the conventional character of their nature, can be understood, in my opinion, in  terms of a verification of their limits, an attempt to test their expressive and semantic meaning. For this reason, the paper that I propose focuses on the first result of this long research: the series Area di coincidenza, created in the Seventies of the twentieth century. Thanks to the analysis of those works and of the theoretical investigation that the artist carried trough about them, I propose to examine what, according to the author, is the limit of the image, of its expressive power.
